61: Weta Cave Workshop Tour

Today, Keri and I went to the Weta Workshop. We had pre-booked a tour at 2pm as the tours are really popular! We took the bus to the area where the workshop was located, Miramar. We saw a Gandolf the Gray statue on the way to our stop!

Weta Workshop is known for many thing such as their Lord of the Rings props, display and graphics. We arrived early to the Weta Cave, which is their store front for the public. There were tons of displays and a gallery as well! We also saw a free 25 min film in their theatrette, which was about the behind other scenes stuff. It was quite cool seeing it as there were movies that we didn't know that Weta has contributed to! We grabbed some quick lunch at the convenience store and then headed back for our tour!

We couldn't take any photos but we got a nice 45 min tour. I never knew they did things for the Tin Tin movie, King Kong, Avatar, District 9, and a few others! I definitely learned a lot and appreciated movie and prop designers a lot more after the trip. We got to hold a mace from LotR and an assault rifle from District 9!
After the tour and buying a few things from the Cave, we walked down to the Wellington Airport to see some more Weta displays. There were three huge displays at the airport like Golem and Gandolf! They were insane!

We took the bus back in town and decided to charge up our electronics for half an hour. We had Japanese dinner at TJ Katsu, yum!

And then we planned for the next few days, Ingress, Te Papa museum (free!) and possibly Zealandia!
