44: Catching up with friend & LRT
So we left from Hurstville Station today! I think we've just included that in our morning stroll/commute. It makes the most sense to wander to cheaper food areas for breakfast before going into the central business district.
We got into the city center around 12pm and wandered the district. We went to Australia Post to see if we could ship an umbrella. Yes, we brought a really cool long umbrella that doesn't shrink with us from Tokyo but have no clue how to get it back to Toronto. We're probably going to get it as cabin luggage throughout the trip. Anyways, they don't have shipping tubes wide enough for the handle.
So, we wandered to the Queen Victoria Building which was gorgeous. They kept most of the old decor which was kind of cool! They also had a Christmas tree similar to Eaton Centre's tree. Its strange how Halloween isn't till tomorrow, but they already have Christmas decorations up. Apparently the Christmas here and people don't have turkey, but have seafood BBQ. I can dig that.
We had a quick lunch bite at a nearby food court (by the way, its cheaper in Sydney vs Perth for food court prices). And then around 2:30, we met Keri's friend at the Opera Bar. And talked about trips and catching up about life in Sydney. I may have over talked a bit because I had a really delicious mojito while chilling at the bar.
Keri and I shared a lychee and apple mojito pitcher. It was more worth the value to have a pitcher than two beverages that cost about the same. We may want to recreate it.. It was delicious!
Afterwards, we went to the Sydney Opera House's gift shop. It was cool seeing a few of the products made out of wood like trivets and skylines. Too bad it was like $40+ AUD and we'd have a shipping concern again.. Haha.
Then, we rode to Central Station. I wanted to ride the light rail system from Central Station to say we've been on the vehicles. Its like a smoother new streetcar in Chinatown in Toronto. It's even in red! I quite liked it. Hopefully, ours will be like that.
We had Thai food in Thai Town. The area we were in had various signs scattered pointing to Korea Town, China Town and Thai Town. It was kind of cool discovering different cultural areas in Sydney.
We headed home after food and had an early night's rest. We're going for brunch in Surrey Hills cause that's apparently the thing to do on weekends!
Less than 2 days till flight to Proserpine! We also booked our day trip to see the Great Barrier Reef. Long day ahead? Probably!
