35: Jetstar & Perth CBD
We flew with Jetstar, a budget airline to Perth, Australia! They take out all the options. If you want, you can purchase more leg room as their seats are pretty narrow. You'd also need to buy food on the plane or pre-purchase if you want to eat. But most airlines won't blame you if you bring snacks on the plane now (I think).
The flight to Perth was around 4-5 hours. Unfortunately for us, we didn't sleep enough though. We had a sick lady in the aisle seat, so she was coughing here and there. We managed to get the plane wing for this flight again, which has less turbulence. I think after these flights, we realized we need neck cushioning. Note to self, buy one.
So we landed at Perth International Airport. We got scanned by a beagle, it was so cute! We had to put our bags down to get them all sniffed for biohazard. Afterwards, we bought prepaid Sim cards just outside of the arrivals gate. Optus, the provider, had a deal for $2 per day, unlimited calling and texting, 500MB per day. This was pretty cool because it works almost Nationwide of Australia. This helps because we'll be going to Proserpine (near Great Barrier Reef), Sydney and Brisbane still!
Afterwards, we took the local Transperth transit bus ($4.5 AUD as it was passing through 2 zones) instead of the Airport Express bus ($15 AUD) to the Perth City center. We had tons of time and it doesn't hurt to ride like the locals. We noticed that their buses don't have speech or indicators for the next stop. So, we had to keep Google Maps open for relative GPS accuracy in case we miss our stop. However, the free buses that they ran in the Perth City had indicators for the next stop! So inconsistent.
Perth City has free bus lines called CAT which come in multiple colours. It was kind of cool, not having to pay for a bus fare. We walked around the Hays Street Mall and ate at the food court nearby. The expense of living in Perth is slightly higher, food was a bit more expensive as well.
After that, we watched The Martian. We like experiencing the local entertainment to see how they feel. And in this case, a movie. Keri wanted to see The Martian. Turns out, it wasn't that bad. I'd say to check it out!
We had Korean food afterwards. Turns out Korean restaurants are still the same here and in Toronto. Korean music videos playing in the background and random Korean language everywhere!
We headed by bus/train to Keri's cousin place out in Canning vale. Such a nice area! Almost felt like Markham in Canada. We talked a bit with his family and touched base on our travels and then crashed for the night.
Time for a trip to the beaches!
