32: Temple Day 2: Angkor Wat

Temple day 2 consisted of several things: sunset, smaller temples and Angkor Wat.

We woke up around 4am and got ready for our sunset at Angkor Wat. Our driver came by early as usual, before our arranged time at 4:50am. He prepared a fresh case of cold water for us, which is fantastic!

We got to Angkor Wat around 5:15am. We weren't the only ones driving through the night. We joined the rest of the tourists along the side of Angkor Wat to view the sunset. No one was allowed in the temples till 5:30am. Unfortunately it was cloudy but we still got to see the change in sky colour and when the sun was slightly higher. All in all, its breathtaking seeing Angkor Wat in all its glory.

We walked back to our driver around 6am. He recommended to do several of the smaller temples first as there were tons of people already gathered in Angkor Wat. Also, the highest part of Angkor Wat wasn't accessible till 7:30 anyways.

He took us to several small temples like East Me Bon temple, Neak Pean and several others that I can't find a sign for. I've been taking tons of photos with my camera and attempted to start each temple series with an information sign.

My favourite temple for day 2 among the batch has to be Neak Pean. Its a nice temple surrounded by water. You have to cross a wooden pathway, no railings or anything, in order to get across. It looks insanely cool just to get there. I took my time crossing as I rather not swim. Attached photo of the walkway below.

We had lunch and then headed to the Angkor Wat temple. Its the biggest temple ever. So much to see, so much to do. The carvings, sculptures and main pathway all contributed to how awesome it was. Keri walked up to the highest tourist access point. I didn't cause by that time I was quite exhausted and needed to cool off. Luckily for us, the portable fans that my aunt bought us in Hong Kong are coming in handy. We were the only ones with quiet electric fans while most tourists had hand held fans.

Afterwards, we headed home. I took a nap cause of how early we left. And then we had dinner by Steven's Corner. We were craving barbeque food.. They had really delicious skewers for $0.75 USD (chicken or beef).

Also went through the night market after dinner. By this time, I'd have familiarized myself with haggling and prices. I noticed people overpricing things to $8-$10 but seems like some places do $5 as their lowest. I ended up getting a bag and a dress for $10 total. And then we ended up sleeping early. It was a long day.

Tip for temples: the holy parts of the temples have strict rules, like no revealing shoulders (no tank tops), no revealing knees (no shorts), and no hats. There's a few more rules but I don't remember it. And also tons of incense candles as well.

One more whole day of temples and then we fly out to Perth, Australia.
