24: Harajuku, Shibuya, Ikebukuro

So today was a lot of sightseeing into places in a tourist guidebook. I made several marks on a map and wrote them on the calendar and adjusted for the days left.

Today, we went to Meiji-jingu Mae Station (Harajuku). At this station, we walked to the Meiji-jingu (明治神宮), which is a huge and pretty shrine. On our way into the shrine area, groups of what seemed like university students will bombard foreigners. They will ask if they could give them a tour from the shrine gate to the shrine itself as part of practicing English for school. At the shrine, we witnessed a photoshoot for the wedding and the wedding march to the ceremony room!

We also saw several children dressed up for shichi-go-san! For those that don't know, it's a Japanese traditional rite of passage for girls (aged three and seven) and boys (aged three and five). Tons of nature, two shrine gates and the shrine itself, such a sight!

Afterwards, we went to the Harajuku district nearby, specifically Takashita Street. It is a pedestrian only street with tons of fashion stores! And we had bubble tea and saw tons of people. Basically, it felt like an overcrowded Kensington Market.

For lunch, we went to the nearby Tempura Tendon Tenya, Asakusa Tokyo division. They served tempura with your choice of udon, soba or rice. Keri ordered the vegetable tempura set meal for 760 yen and I had the prawn and large squid tempura set meal for 790 yen! I thought it was decent, cheap and affordable. Too bad I was hungry... and ate it all before I could snap a photo. So here's a picture of their menu below!

We also revisited Ikebukuro, specifically Sunshine City's Pokémon Center Mega Tokyo! We revisited as they had new stuff. They're quite smart with their advertising.. They had posters on the store's walls to show the next upcoming products (which clearly got us coming back to buy more things).

We also witnessed two Pikachus come out and head into the entrance of the store. And crowds form automatically. People ran to photograph a Hawaiian style Pikachu and a caped Pikachu.

Sunshine City sure has a lot of stores to buy things from. As mentioned before, in the same building, there was a Disney store and as we discovered today, a store called Moe Garden (which had Studio Ghibli stuff)! So I ended up getting several more things from there! My aunt wanted an umbrella that reveals patterns in the rain, so I got her a purple Spirited Away design. Too bad they sold out of Totoro design.

And now, we're chilling at home. I think by now, we've realized the most efficient and cost-effective way to get home and save some money as well!
