72 & 73: Queenstown & Bungy Jump
On day 72, it was a bit rainy outside. So to summarize, we mainly shopped for souvenirs. There were some things we had to grab and cool things to shop around. We made dinner tonight as well.
On day 73, our last day in Queenstown, we had booked for a bungy jump and zip lining.
In the morning, we walked to the Saturday Queenstown Market and saw tons of cool homemade crafts. But too bad some of them were hard to bring home.
We went to The Station for our bungy jump session with AJ Hackett Bungy.
We signed up for the Kawarau Bridge jump which was the 1st official commercial bungy jump. We got on our shuttle bus at 1:20pm. Luckily, we didn't do the Nevis jump because that was the tallest Australasia Bungy jump which was canceled because of the windy weather.
It was cold, windy and rainy. But Keri and I did it. Its not your typical day where you can say you jumped off a bridge. It was nerve wracking, cold, and I was trembling. I think I was mostly just cold rather than terrified.
Keri went before me and then it was my turn. I had my safety belts on and I got strapped on by the legs. By this time, I've gotten over the cold. I think I realized, oh boy.. I'm going off a bridge. A BRIDGE!
The safety guy told me to stand up and walk to the edge of the bridge. Yeah, easy for him to say! He counted from 3 to 1 and I hesitated. Bad move, I looked down and I froze. He told me to look at the bridge and recounted again. I raised my arms and he counted again. I leaned over and fell.
Oh. My. Goodness. Yes, I screamed. The scary part wasn't the falling. It was the bouncing back up and realizing you'd be falling again. I was definitely startled and as I was suspended in the air, I saw a boat of two guys. They told me to hold a pole so they can grab me. I grabbed on, then felt the safety and bottom of the raft. I was done. Phew?
Keri met me half way up to the centre. He was proud of me. I was proud of myself. I never thought I'd be doing this. But I did it! Success!
Keri and I went on the zip line as a pair and then we got some of our videos as well.
We took the next shuttle bus back to the Queenstown city centre and went to Fergburger. Fergburger is a famous burger joint that had huge burgers like bigger than my palm! But delicious!
Well, time for packing... A flight tomorrow to Auckland and then Vancouver!
