38: Cuballing & Narrigon

Today, Keri's uncle Iain brought us to visit the town of Narrigon next to the town of Cuballing. The town had phone reception so we were able to get emails and etc. But he gave us a quick car tour around the town. It only had around 4,670 residents versus Cuballing with around 400 residents.

We headed back to the shire of Cuballing and stopped by the Cuballing Tavern to see the vehicles. There was an organized poker run happening where people collect cards at different pubs around the area. It was cool seeing many different people's motorcycles and vehicles. And it went to a good cause, the Royal Flying Doctor Service, which flies people in need of health care (similar to ORNGE).

Keri's Aunt Ailsa and Uncle Ross stopped by for lunch and we caught up with them. They brought up food and we chatted over the TV broadcast of the racecar competition in Gold Coast, Queensland. They asked us about our trip so far and where we will be next.

After they left, we watched the ending of Free Willy. We also watched a documentary on wolf spiders by David Attenborough. We watched TV for a bit and then left around 6ish for dinner. We went to Wickepin Hotel for dinner. It was the town next to Cuballing. The food wasn't that bad, I had a pasta dish while the other two had steak.

On our way back, we still didn't find any kangaroos. Apparently they're nocturnal animals, I didn't know that! They like bright lights according to Keri's uncle. He said he usually sees them on the way back to the house, but none this time. Drivers have to be careful in the night especially cause the roos jump into the roads, so similar cases like deers in the GTA.

While we got home, we discussed Uncle Iain's latest project, a V8 engine transformed to a coffee table. Earlier today, he had mounted wheels and metal joints for the glass on the engine. Tonight, he snipped off parts of a 250 LED Christmas light to get it funneling into the engine. It was a work in progress trying to figure out lights and wiring. It sure felt like physics and mechanical engineering.

If you're not sure if it works, just try it out!
Random note: learning Australian terminology is interesting, a chook is a chicken! And that Hake is a type of shark!
