26: Skytree, Kaminarimon, Sensō-ji, Okonomiyaki

So today, we went to Asakusa station and the surrounding areas.

We went to the base of Tokyo Skytree and saw tons of things! There was tons to see around the Skytree and the Tokyo Skytree Town. There was so much to see and shop! There was the Tree Village (store) with tons of Doraemon, Gudetama, Hello Kitty, Kamen Rider, Studio Ghibli and lots more. We unfortunately did not stop by the Skytree as there were other plans on my list to see. Plus, we saw the Tokyo Tower during the night and didn't want another night view.

Next to the Skytree, there was the Tokyo Solamachi building which had a bunch of things as well. It felt like a mall as it had shopping and a food court. There was also a Sumida Aquarium (that we didn't visit) and a Japan Experience floor. That floor serves as both gift shop and enlightened people on the Sumida area. There was a section on Katsushika Hokusai (artist of The Great Wave) as Sumida was his hometown.

Afterwards, we went to see the Kaminarimon (gate), Sensō-ji Temple and Nakimise-dori (street). It was so pretty. Definitely worth the visit and of course get your fortune at the shrine! Yay for regular good luck and not bad luck!

And of course, once you're in Japan, you have to have okonomiyaki, which is a type of pancake. In Toronto, I only know of one okonomiyaki place around Bloor station. So since we were in Asakusa, I searched up a place called Sometaro.

Sometaro was a nice authentic and old looking restaurant. They had no air-conditioning but they had fans running. They seem to have a capacity of about 30 people. They had metal heating elements at each table! Also, they had a menu in several languages which was quite helpful. You can choose to make your own okonomiyaki or they can help you. It was quite delicious!

Now, heading home now as there's much to pack/ship. So little time.. Two days till a layover in Hong Kong (dinner with relatives) and then Cambodia!
