(Thoughts) Product: Google Live Cases

As I was skimming my Twitter feeds this morning, I stumbled upon a new product released by Google today, Google Live Cases. I had to post my thoughts about it; I think it's a cool new spin on the traditional phone cases!

My Thoughts:
The downside, it is only eligible for Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P right now. Oh, and unfortunately not available in Canada as well. Guess I'm not trying it out yet (unless I find some of my friends in the South)!

I think the product overall is quite cool (reviewing it based on site and product concept). I'm naturally leaning towards the Places product because it appeals much more to me, being a transit-lover and all the adventures I went on recently. Also, I think it's quite a cool concept that your wallpaper is constantly changing and updating to your current location (hence: "Live" Wallpaper). But I'm curious to find out how much this will drain from your phone because of the GPS location and updating of the map.

I can't wait for this to come to Canada!

Information about Google Live Cases:
Google Live Cases allows Nexus users to create their own customized Nexus phone case. They have two products to choose from: Photos Live Case or Places Live Case.

Photos Live Case allows you to Upload Your Own Photo. Places Live Case allows you to Choose a Map Spot. Then you get to stylize your photo or map with different styles, colours and the choice of matte or glossy finish!

But it's not just a phone case! Google has implemented two features for this case: Live Wallpaper and Shortcut Button.

Live Wallpaper uses a new app called Live Cases App to show you a matching wallpaper. It would either create a slideshow (you can select various photos and choose how often they change for Photos Live Case versions) or display the current map location (in the same map style for Places Live versions). Also, both cases have a Shortcut Button which allows the user to customize the button for any quick shortcut launch such as a favourite app!

Requirements:
  • Android 4.4 or higher
  • Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P or Nexus 6
  • Live Cases App
